Some peripherals may require a powered hub, but I have 2 printers and a scanner plugged into this and they all work fine. I had some problems with it randomly coming disconnected when it was still plugged in though, but it only happened a couple times. The cable coming out of it is like 1" long, but it lets it fold up into the hub when you're not using it. It has a jack (on the top in the picture) for power, which seems to be a semi-standard size because another hub I had uses the same size. DOES NOT COME WITH POWER ADAPTER, so be careful about exceeding USB power limits (not likely but possible).
