Editorial Reviews:

Cambodia is a land of lush beauty and ancient mystery. Together with Laos and Vietnam it formed what was historically known as Indochina. While the country is still recovering from the effects of the brutal Khmer Rouge regime, in recent years it has become an increasingly popular tourist destination. Globe Trekker Ian Wright begins his journey to Cambodia by celebrating Buddha s Day at Phnom Da, the country s oldest temple. From Phnom Da, he travels to Kampot at the base of the Elephant Mountains and explores the extraordinary Bokor Hill Station built by the French in 1912. Then, Ian catches the slow train to Sihanoukville and sets off for the pristine beaches of Koh Rong. From Koh Rong the journey takes him to the capital, Phnom Penh, where he explores the central market and sits in on a rehearsal of traditional Cambodian dance. A short flight to Senmonorom in Cambodia s northern Mondulkiri Province brings Ian to the celebration of a traditional hill tribe wedding. The final leg of the journey takes Ian to Lake Tonle Sap and on to Siem Reap. His visit to Cambodia ends exploring the ruins of the awe inspiring temple complex at Angkor. Along the way.... Sample a bowl of traditional bat soup. Help the Mines Advisory Group clear unexploded mines outside of Phnom Penh. Visit one of the Khmer Rouge s notorious killing fields Take a bicycle tour of Angkor s famous temples, Ta Prohm, the Bayon and Angkor Wat.

Summary: entertaining and full of information
Comment: Worth owning, I purchased it for a upcoming trip. A little more information on problems to watch out for and how to move around the country would be nice

Summary: Ian Wright at his best!
Comment: One of my favourite Globe Trekker DVDs. Ian Wright, the traveller, was fabulous as always. Just be aware there is quite graphic animal sacrifice in this DVD, including of a dog, so just be prepared.

Summary: RIP YOUR HEART OUT
Comment: Ian Wright takes you on this journey to Cambodia (I saw this on PBS). This is not your usual Ian being a goofball.

In this installment he talks with survivors of the Khmer Rouge's prison. One well-known prisoner Vann Nath is interviewed (whose skills as a painter kept him alive). One of seven survivors of Cambodia's Tuol Sleng torture chambers, and escaped when Pol Pot's "killing fields" regime suddenly collapsed in 1979. He painted graphic pictures of communist Khmer Rouge extracting "confessions" from victims.

Some of his paintings depicting the atrocities he witnessed while he was held captive are shown. GUT WRENCHING!!!
