Editorial Reviews:

Our Natural Red Palm Oil comes from Malaysia. Just as the Philippines is considered the "Coconut Capital of the World," Malaysia is considered the "Palm Oil Capital of the World". It is rich in natural carotenoids, tocopherols and tocotrienols. It is a liquid at room temperature, and has a rich bright red color. When solid, it is an orange red color. This rich red color is due to the high content of natural carotenoids. The carotene content is above 500 mg/kg! These carotenoids are mainly beta carotene (275mg/kg) and alpha carotene (175 mg/kg), with smaller amounts of phytoene, lutein and lycopene. Carotenes are also found in other orange foods such as carrots, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin. Lycopene is a more red color and is found in foods such as watermelon and tomato. Tocopherols and tocotrienols are related powerful antioxidants in the vitamin E family. Natural Red Palm Oil is produced from the fruit of the oil palm, Elaeis guineensis. It is a vegetable oil and therefore does not contain any cholesterol, which is only found in animal or dairy products. Natural Red Palm Oil made from the fruit contains about 50% naturally saturated fats and 50% unsaturated fats. The saturated fats in Natural Red Palm Oil are not the dangerous synthetically hydrogenated types, which have received so much attention for their effect on health. The unsaturated fats in Natural Red Palm are predominantly oleic acid, which is the main type of fat in olive oil. You will love to use this oil for sautéing vegetable dishes; it's simply delicious.

Summary: Natural Red Palm Oil
Comment: Excellent product! I use this product for myself and add it to my bird's food.

Summary: Natural suplement for African Greys
Comment: Some African Grey owners claim that adding Red Palm Oil to their bird's diet aids in their bird's health and stops them from plucking their feathers. I bought this product for all of those reasons. My bird raves over dinner now and I noticed that her feathers are "shinier" and her red tail is brighter than it used to be. Unfortunately is has not helped her with her plucking problem. But since the red palm is a daily food in the African Grey's natural habitat I will continue to add it to her dinners.

Summary: Works quite well...
Comment: This isn't a joke, but it is useful advice.

I bought this oil because I have a parrot with a feather plucking problem. I've been adding about half a teaspoonful daily to her soft food for about 3 months and the results are terrific. She's almost back to full feather and has not plucked a single pinfeather since we began adding it.

This is a logical solution. Palm nuts are a part of most parrot's natural diet. It only makes sense that red palm oil contains nutrients that are otherwise missing in a caged bird's diet.

Your mileage may vary since feather plucking is a complex mystery, but in my case it's been a miracle cure for our cantankerous eclectus.
