The Armenian Genocide is the complete story of the first Genocide of the 20th century when over a million Armenians died at the hands of the Ottoman Turks during World War I. This unprecedented and powerful one-hour documentary, which aired April 17th, 2006 on PBS, was written, directed and produced by Emmy Award-winning producer Andrew Goldberg of Two Cats Productions, in association with Oregon Public Broadcasting.
Featuring interviews with the leading experts in the field such as Pulitzer Prize-winning author Samantha Power and New York Times best-selling author, Peter Balakian, this film features never-before-seen historical footage of the events and key players of one of the greatest untold stories of the 20th century. The Armenian Genocide is narrated by Julianna Margulies and includes historical narrations by Ed Harris, Natalie Portman, Laura Linney and Orlando Bloom, among others.

"Serious, literate and ultimately heartbreaking." [made with] "...intelligence and precision." (The New Jersey Star Ledger)

Customer Rating: Summary: Big lie! Comment: Greatest lie !About 50.000 Armenian living Turkey now. Many people died. But not only Armenian. Many Turkish people killed by the Armenian gangs.
Customer Rating: Summary: Misconceptions, Deceit, and Factual Misrepresentation Comment: This documentary is a disgrace to history, not only does it distort history by immediately giving you the director's biased conclusion from the very beginning but it does nothing to promote history. It simply details stories of death that does not prove genocide: think about it, if I made a documentary on World War II and only put in videos of how American soldiers killed Germans, it would SEEM like as if America committed genocide---this is not scholarly work, you must present BOTH SIDES to be objective!
Even Western historians have condemned this documentary, because it is completely based on one single perspective, and the only objection they allow for the other side to make their case is about one sentence throughout the documentary.
In addition there are direct lies in the documentary. For example, they interviewed "witnesses" that they call "Turkish witnesses", but yet they are speaking KURDISH and are not Turkish. That was a direct lie that this documentary showed us. How dare they mislead the public using propaganda and deceit? Especially on such a controversial and debated history!
Customer Rating: Summary: impartial Comment: i wouldn't trust any documentary that is made by partial sides. Armenians have manipulated some facts and even images before. This is just Armenian Diaspora at work.
Customer Rating: Summary: remarkable Comment: This is a moving documentary. It's powerful, evocative and yet tremendously difficult to watch because of the historical status of the Armenian genocide. It is an atrocity that continues to be largely overlooked, or conveniently denied because of the inconvenience of the truth.
I agree that the DVD quality could be finer, but after reading the negative reviews of this program on Amazon, I find that most of the them are by people who are irritated by the content, and not by the quality of this feature. These are the kind of people, Turkish or not, that would scoff at any person or program that dared to reveal the very inconvenient, but undeniable, truth about the Ottoman Empire's systemic purge of an entire people. They are not meant to be taken seriously.
Customer Rating: Summary: Theory of Evolution and Turkey :) Comment: My education and background is in medicine and this reminds me of something interesting. Its like vvhen you try to explain the theory of evolution to hard core religious people or ignorant people vvho refuse to expand. I have had the pleasure fevv times, and let me tell you, no matter hovv covincing evidence you bring up and the enormous amount of evidence available to support the theory, and even try to explain the basics of the theory, these people vvill not give u an inch. Catch my drift, trying to tell the Armenian Genocide to brainvvashed Turks. And Genocide (Armenian or not) is NOT a theory; its vvhat happened!! But I learned one thing, you don't argue vvith those people, b/c your playing their game, let them bask in they rays of ignorance, i actually agree vvith them and have a good laugh aftervvards! Look vvhat happened to Dink vvhen he tried to do that! moral of the story: never dicuss the theory of the evolution vvith turkish nationalist/deniers! LOL :)
