Spotlight customer reviews: Customer Rating: Summary: Brilliantly done Comment: This is a brilliant disc that succeeds in achieving the goal of all anthem arrangements; reconciling brilliant musicality with patriotic fervor. Strangely enough, the best-known anthems are among the weakest, Germany, Greece, Britain, Ireland, and Indonesia being below-par. However, the disc more than compensates for these errors with magnificent arrangements of Ghana, India, Karabagh, the Côte d'Ivoire, and even Guam and Kiribati; although better arrangements of Italy have been done, this one is above average. Perhaps the best tracks are Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, in my own opinion the best arrangements in the six-disc set. In all, this disc is overwhelming in its comprehensive approach, and unlike most massive collections of anthems, loses very little in the way of quality. This entire set is a definite must-buy for anyone seriously interested in national anthems. Customer Rating: Summary: Kudos! Comment: If you're looking for full-bodied, admirably performed national anthems from Gabon to the Kyrgyz Republic, then this disc is for you. The rendition of Guinea's anthem alone is worth the purchase. Breiner's orchestration provides excellent balance, while allowing the brass full play when appropriate. A winner all the way around.
