Customer Rating: Summary: Should be titled "Me and my ego", by Charlie Munger Comment: This is not a bad book, but it doesn't deserve the 5 stars given it by the gushing fans in previous reviews. Most of what I found in the book I have seen elsewhere.
I was struck by Charlie's story about star businessman Jack Welch stating that he did not have any special skill or insight that would allow him to explain why one of Apple's ventures failed. Charlie holds that up as an exemplary example of the realistic humility of a superstar. And yet he proceeds to fill hundreds of pages with his own opinions on a variety of subjects that stray far from his own core competence, which seems to have been attaching himself remora-like to Warren Buffett.
Customer Rating: Summary: review Comment: A collection of Mr. Munger's must sought after investing ideas and public speeches. Don't expect the answer to any life long questions but do expect more reading ideas. More of a different approach to thinking than a particular step by step investment book. Good coffee table book! Customer Rating: Summary: Poor Charlie's Almanack vs. Seeking Wisdom Comment: I'm not gonna praise Munger's wisdom again. Other reviewers did the job very well. After having read both books, Poor Charlie's Almanack and Seeking Wisdom, I highly recommend starting with Seeking Wisdom. It's shorter without lacking depth nor scope, but gives a great 'introduction' into Munger's (and Buffet's) way of thinking. Straight to the point. After reading Seeking Wisdom you probably long for more Munger wisdom. Then go for Poor Charlie's Almanack. Enjoy reading, re-reading ... and soak the wisdom of one of the finest thinkers ever walked on this planet. Customer Rating: Summary: Spectacular book. Five stars all around. Comment: Read the other five star reviews. They say what I would say about this book. As far as general investing wisdom and philosophical guidance, for value investors, this book very well may be "the one". Customer Rating: Summary: excellent on the toilet Comment: I think Charlie was a little reluctant to give this book a chance, but he was persuaded by some bottom feeder to do it nonetheless. After having read some of his 'wise' quotes and hearing him speak, it's no wonder. Charlie may be a billionare and possess the same kind of midwestern charm that his partner has, but this does not make him wise. If you want real wisdom, try shakespeare or cicero. If you want investment advice, go to someone like charlie... maybe. However, if you are looking for some good toilet reading, this book passes the test (though you may want to wait for the paperback).
