Editorial Reviews:

Why don't people heal? Why do they stay wounded--some even driven to suicide by their pain-despite the best that organic and psychological medicine can offer? To find the answers, Russian--born psychiatrist Olga Kharitidi traveled to exotic Samarkand, a major cultural and spiritual crossroads, and ancient capital of Uzbekistan, in the heart of Central Asia.

No stranger to mystical and shamanic experiences, Dr. Kharitidi had already immersed herself in Siberian native traditions of seeing and healing. Now, at the invitation of an emissary from an ancient secret brotherhood, Dr. Kharitidi set out to learn firsthand the secrets of healing deep emotional wounds. As she quickly discovered, to master these methods she would first have to heal herself.

Under the tutelage of the mysterious and charismatic Michael, the master of lucid dreams and protector of esoteric teachings first given millennia ago, Dr. Kharitidi entered another world altogether. There, she saw how our deepest emotional traumas are held in place by baleful spirits and can only be overcome by the technique of dreaming while awake.

A major contribution to experiential psychology and a vivid revelation of little-known ancient teachings, The Master of Lucid Dreams describes a startlingly different and effective approach to inner healing.

Summary: Casteneda in Uzbekistan
Comment: I think this is very like reading Castenada's work. It's not an instruction manual on "how to master lucid dreams", so if you're looking for the step-by-step on becoming a "master of lucid dreams", skip this one. however, it teaches by taking you on the journey with the author. you see what she sees, learn what she experiences, and can take your own lessons from that.

The structure of how the Uzbek shamans see trauma, how it re-creates and feeds itself in the victim, and how it turns the victim into the abuser is quite interesting. A nicely functioning metaphor at least, and a mystical reality at most, both the shaman and the doctor give their cultural context on how to understand and treat the dynamics of trauma.

If you've used lucid dreaming, this will provide some new ideas on how to apply it. If you're working to not repeat a trauma in your life, and are looking for new ways to understand the mechanisms at work, this is illuminating. and it was an engaging read as well.

Summary: Expand your mind....I dare you
Comment: Although at times I wondered if I'd picked up a fiction novel whilst reading this tale. However I realise that we each have a choice about what we believe and just because we've never had any experience of something doesn't actually stop it from being real.

I'm very pleased that this book, like the first one has brought two different healing methods (lucid dreaming & psychiatry) to the same points and I think that it's really brave of Olga to write about her experiences like that. I didn't enjoy the book as much as the first one but then I'm probably more biased towards Shamanic influences. Dream time is all about astral traveling and the astral plane is the place for all the accumulated memories and rubbish that we collect, some are innocuous and some have a huge influence on out lives, like a core program that has become habitual and we are no longer aware of it running.

Ancestral patterns are there in so many aspects of out lives although we tend to think of them as genetic but our genes are just the physical manifestation of our entire blueprint. Imagine if that blueprint were bigger than our field of vision, we'd have to step back to see it all, so why not step back with your mind too and embrace this book as the ground breaking work that it is. It's easy to be narrow minded....why not try something new today.

Summary: The Master of Lucid Dreams
Comment: Olga Kharitidis' writing keeps one informed on the reality of Lucid Dreams, and the effect they can have as keys in our lives. Her Journey, and those she helped with this knowledge, made me look at dreams in a totally new and productive way.

Summary: A deep introduction to other perspectives on healing trauma
Comment: Ancient cultures viewed pain and trauma as part of the tapestry of life, the obstacles we must face, and lessons in growth if we choose them to be. In the Western world, despite all the trapping of comfort and wealth, Westerners have the highest rates of clinical depression and mood disorders. Though the statistic is subject to debate, it is a clue that material possessions do not make life any easier when dealing with pain. This book provides a detailed explanation of how this pain can be healed from a different vantage point - that of the indigenous practices of ancient shamans. A way out of pain is not denial but harnessing the energy into something that in the ends, fosters positive growth.

Summary: Excellent description of the world that lies beyond life
Comment: This book is not correctly titled as it does not teach you how to be conscious in our dreams. It is about the help that a lucid dreaming master, who lives in Uzbekistan, gives to the author using this technique. This book is the most vivid book that I have come across that describes life after death and the possible consequences of our life to our life after death and therefore reinforces the importance of living our life in order to meet death as enlightened and aware that we can possibly be. His reference to the Book of Revelations being the "christian book of the dead" is intriguing and may offer an explanation for its inclusion in the New Testament. This book is written just as well as her first autobiography which is also a 'can't put it down' quality read.
