Customer Rating: Summary: A photographic and poetic odyssey Comment: A glorious book - I loved the photography: majestic mountains and local life, picturesque farmhouses and women padding along footpaths with baskets of wood alongside images of trekkers straggling along mountainsides and seemingly uncrossable bridges of aged timber. All the work of Tim Hauf brought me closer to Kangchenjunga. We see the work of life, local and trekking, along with awesome peaks.
The inclusion of Buddhist culture with photos of ancient monasteries and wind-blown prayer flags finely illustrates Conger Beasley's chapter entitled "Mystic Splendor". The history of Sikkim, its political and religous background, is here addressed in the language of poetry. A long period of life in a world rarely visited - thank you Tim and Conger for sharing so richly. Customer Rating: Summary: "glossy" kansch Comment: The book is beautiful, but not so good to be ranked among the most interesting ones. I as expecting o lot of mountain pictures, and get frustated with very few ones. My copy has a faulty assembly, as the pages are upside down.
