Houghton Mifflin Company Another inky evening's here—
The air is cool and calm and clear.
Can it be true? Oh, can it be?
Yes!—Bat Night at the library!

Join the free-for-all fun at the public library with these book-loving bats! Shape shadows on walls, frolic in the water fountain, and roam the book-filled halls until it's time for everyone, young and old, to settle down into the enchantment of story time. Brian Lies' joyful critters and their nocturnal celebration cast library visits in a new light. Even the youngest of readers will want to join the batty book-fest!

Summary: Bats at the Library
Comment: This is a delightful children's book about bats who visit the library whenever a window is left open. Bats of all ages enjoy various aspects of the library until dawn when they must fly home and await another opportunity to find an open window. The artwork is beautifully done.

Summary: My kids are batty for Brian's "Bats" series
Comment: Just when I proclaimed "Bats at the Beach" my favorite book, this next one comes around and I can't decide which I love more. "Bats at the Library" is a favorite at our house because my kids (10 and 6) can identify the classic characters in Brian's beautiful illustrations, so it becomes both a great story for bedtime and a "game" - and a platform to talk about the importance of reading and literature. The illustrations have subtle humor and references that adults will enjoy as much as the young readers... it's a fun, smart book that celebrates reading and builds a love for books. What more can you ask for? A great addition to a child's library or a quality gift.

Summary: As delightful as first.
Comment: Bats at the library was as fun as Bats at the beach. Every so often the librarian forgets to close a window. Word gets out and the bats head for a night at the library.

There a fun to be had by all. Be it reading books, shaping shadows on a wall, playing with the photo copier, and telling stories.

The artwork is great. Be sure to point out things such as the bats hanging in a limb. A little one might get a laugh if you point out the fact they are upside down and there is a roof top at the top of the page. There are references to other books such as Goodnight Sun, Make way for Bats and Mr. Bats wild ride.

As with the beach the story and the words flow well.

If your child liked Bats at the Beach, they will like this book as well!

Summary: Leave The Library Window Open....
Comment: Bats gather at the library once a year when the librarian leaves the window open. The bats all fly in and enjoy themselves. Some read books, other play in the water fountain, others find quiet places to enjoy themselves, usually with books. The youngest bats who have never been there before are having the experience of their lives. The elders enjoy introducing them to all the wonderful things at the library and the wonders of books. A great story and pure pleasure.

Summary: Cute story
Comment: This book's richly detailed chiaroscuro paintings find considerable humor at the intersection where bat and human behavior meet.
